Don't expect to be a good manager in 1 minute. Thats a gimmick to sell books. It takes a lifetime to become a really great manager but this book outlines all the different types and harps on situational leadership which is my favorite anyway. Its how your style of leadership must change from situation to situation. So when you're on the ground floor, you know how to act, what to say, and what to do to inspire employees and contrasts that with what you should do if you aren't in that position and in a board meeting for example. Excellent advice for beginners to old pros, but caters to newbies. I taught at a leadership conference and have these away I was so impressed!
This book clearly defines several styles of leadership, as well as several levels of "competence" among employees. This entry in Ken Blanchard's One Minute Manager Library uses the narrative style that has for better or worse become standard in business literature to teach `situational leadership' in terms of flexibility, diagnosis, and partnering. The key difference is that Leadership and the One Minute Manager provides you with a scalable system to assess your team member’s skills, agree on the terms of success and the steps to success and then agree on a system for accountability. The author's focus on enhanced motivation to individual employees and apply better management skills to get the most desired results from them. To begin with 'Goal Setting' brings in a commitment and makes the individual understand their duties to reach target goals. Putting it into practice will require some thinking and self-training, but the principles are sound.
