Your doctor gives you medical advice.
Your mother buys you baby clothes.
But who can give you the real skinny when you're pregnant?
Your girlfriends, of course -- at least, the ones who've been through the exhilaration and exhaustion, the agony and ecstasy of pregnancy. Four-time delivery room veteran Vicki lovine talks to you the way that only a best friend can-in the book that will go the whole nine months for every mother-to-be. Here is straight talk about those little things that are too strange or embarrassing to ask anyone about, practical tips and hilarious takes on everything pregnant. From learning you're expecting ("Oh my god, how do I get out of this?") to the day your newborn arrives ("You mean I have to take the baby home with me?").
I was skeptical at first when I was given this book during my first pregnancy. However, having only one other mom I knew that had gone through pregnancy (the same one who gave me the book), it really did give you a perspective on pregnancy that other advice books didn't cover. For e.g. the author writes about what happens to your body during and after your pregnancy - not from a biological viewpoint, but a cosmetic viewpoint. I'm not a vain person, but I did care about how my figure would be alterred, and it was refreshing to read from someone who was just as honest and unapologetic. It's exactly like the title suggests - reading it is like having a conversation with your girlfriend about being pregnant. It brings laughter to pregnancy during a time when you sometimes feel like a walking science project. I would highly recommend this to someone going through their first pregnancy - especially if you are the first pregnancy among your circle of girlfriends. It really helps to be able to have your answers questioned in a lighthearted but truthful manner by someone who has been there.
I loved this book. It is so funny. Vicki Iovine had me laughing and feeling better about all the wacky things that were happening to me during my pregnancy. I would definitely recommend it!
Pregnancy is a scary, wonderful, beautiful and gross experience. Vicki Iovine captures all of that and more in this freaking hilarious guide for all pregnant women who don't think they have to be perfect pictures of pregnancy. It says that it is ok to hate the way you look and ok to want loads of sex or none at all. It discusses all the things that some consider taboo, but are very real to every woman that goes through pregnancy. It is a great stress relief. Mrs. Iovine has a refreshingly comical approach to these 9 long months of insanity.
