The Gift of ADHD Activity Book by Lara Honos-Webb

The chapters of the book are organized by strengths that can be developed in a child. There is a short discussion of the importance of each strength, and then the book offers simple activities that parents do with their child-often in just a few minutes-to help develop them. Throughout the book strikes a positive note, stressing things that parents can do themselves to encourage and support their child rather than things they should discourage or avoid.

I was excited when I saw this book, because I had been looking for some tips on how to handle the children in my home who have ADHD. I was hoping to find information on how to help them learn to control their behavior and channel their energy, with ideas for physical and sensory sctivities. This book seems to focus more on teaching life skills to children with ADHD. For instance, there are a lot of ideas for conversations you can have with your child while riding together in the car... a great place to talk, since you and your child are each other's captive audience. There are also recommendations for games and activities your whole family can do at home. Most of the activities are meant to help your child learn to converse with others, recognize other people's emotions, and relax.
Even though this book isn't exactly what I was looking for, I am still glad I bought it. I am planning to try and implement one new idea from the book each day. I think this book would be appreciated not only by parents or others who work with kids with ADHD, but also people who have or work with kids who have Aspergers Syndrome, or other issues that impair their social and emotional skills.
