St. Johns Wort has a rather spotty reputation. Some people swear by it, others are disgusted by it. I suppose it all depends on how it effects you. For me, however, it's awesome. I take it in addition to my regular anti-depressants and it helps a ton. I take it mostly around my period, since I've found even taking my regular anti-depressants, it's not always strong enough with those particular hormone fluctuations. St. Johns Wort seems to smooths out the differences.

As someone who suffers from depression and also wants to eliminate as much unnatural items from their life, I decided to give this herb known for its depression treatment a try. I was sorely disappointed. I took it for 3 months with no results at all. I did not feel better in any way. I did not feel worse either though. I would not recommend this product to anyone with depression. I truly had hoped it would work, but found that it did not. After I finished my course of this herb, I also read that St. John's Wort has been linked to many health issues including impotence in men. I did not experience any nasty side effects like this, but I am glad that I stopped taking it, especially after reading about these possible health hazards. I am guessing that it has helped others with their depression or it would not still be popular in the alternative medicine circles. It just did not work for me.
