Help yourself to more than 140 of the restaurant's best dishes--including its classic Thanksgiving dinner--all made without meat, poultry, fish, or eggs. No matter what your cooking style, these recipes will tempt you to explore and enjoy. Some, like Schiacciata con l'Uva (Italian grape bread) and Coconut Tapioca Pudding, are refreshingly different. Others, such as Spaghetti with Simple Tomato Sauce (for a Complicated World) or Macaroni and No Cheese, taste deliciously like the traditional favorites.
All of the recipes are adapted for the home cook by Janice Cook Knight in a conversational tone that makes you feel as though you're sitting across the table from her. When you sample the recipes, you'll wish you were!
I am one who would simply not believe that a vegetarian meal can actually taste good. I bought this book for a friend who is vegan and decided to try a recipe out just to see for myself what the food would taste like and I was far from disappointed. This book not only has terrific recipes but the recipes are simple and easy to follow. I am a bit skeptical that the recipes for Thanksgiving can possibly be good but overall, this book is perfect for any vegan. Janice Cook Knight did a good job providing great recipes for all to enjoy, even those who aren't vegan.
I'm lucky. I've lived practically next door to the fabled 'Follow Your Heart' Vegetarian restaurant for long enough to have become well versed with just about everything on their menu. We call it 'Vegetarian Comfort Food', and that it is- the best around. This cookbook lives up to the restaurant from which it comes. The authors have compiled a great variety of recipes for any occasion. Breakfast, lunch, dinner- they're all covered. Particularly helpful, though, is an end section which suggest combinations to try for special events- Thanksgiving, etc- to give the fullest, most complementary meal possible. Additionally, the index is comprehensive. Have you got some extra Great Northern Beans and no idea what to do with them? Look up 'beans' in the index and you're on your way.
There are great selections here for everyone- vegan, veg, omni. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced cook, you'll find something worth trying here. [I'd suggest starting with the garlic and mushroom sauce- yum]
