There is nobody who's house, and I guess even sometimes, who's life is more unorganized and chaotic as mine. It was (and still at times is i must admit) totally overwhelming. Although the site my seem almost obnoxiously bright and peppy at first, it's well worth it to stick around and let the flylady take you by the hand. She will, if you let her, show you how to restore order in your house. At first, she seems to be in your face, sort of, by sending a lot of emails every day. After a while though, you will find yourself looking forward to the words of encouragement. Major kudos to the flylady!

I have used FlyLady on and off over the past few years. You get a lot of email, but you are encouraged to take babysteps and grow into the system. Her encouraging notes on life, family, and self-love are not for everyone, but help to encourage those who feel that they are carrying a lot of weight on their own. I recommend this to anyone who would like to get a sense of control and accomplishment on the home front.

FlyLady divides your home into zones, making cleaning and organizing super simple. If you're not already familiar with the site, start with the Beginner BabySteps section. This introduces you to the philosophy of FlyLady, and let's you jump in right away. You'll go through a 31 day introduction, starting with cleaning your sink.

FlyLady works by establishing a lot of little habits that build up to the big picture. If it weren't for this site (and the books), I may have torn my hair out from the mess by now.

Marla Cilley, who has authored and co-authored many books on organization, has come out with this free website to help you get organized! Despite being one of the premier organization queens, the website itself is not exceptionally well organized. But, once you find your way around, you can't help but love the tips! It really helps you figure out how to keep yourself organized without getting overwhelmed and giving up. I can finally have people over to my house again!

The site isn't terribly well-organized, and the emails can be a bit more Christian and Proselytizing than the series of books are, but since it is a free service, it's hard to complain!

The advice is solid and easy to follow, and she includes a list of babysteps for getting started, that you can tackle one at a time til you have each one down. It only takes a few minutes a day and a timer to follow her system, and she is right about setting up routines; once you have them in place, you won't even realize you're doing things - your chores get done on autopilot, and your house is always company-ready.
