Well....I know that the title makes it seems like this book would be about motivating us to "get up and do it!", but that was be untrue. Ms. Pinkins really doesn't do a very good job of motivating us. In fact, I got the distinct impression that she feels like she "knows it all" and it's either her way or the highway. This mindset that she has (or seems to have) really made it hard to finish this book, but I did want to give it a fair chance. A positive thing about this book? You are made to really examin yourself and your goals and desires.

Get Over Yourself! is a wonderful aspirational figure for the way to hitch your mental to the wagon of the beginning of your future. It is a book based on real life situations and strategies that have had to be fined tuned through years of personal execution. Get Over Yourself! was written by Tonya Pinkins in a way that lets you, the reader, use the skills and navigation's presented to your own personality and skill set. This is because it is based mainly on a single person, Tonya Pinkins, experience and the type of people who most everyone is exposed to that helps you, the reader, remodel these strategies to perfectly fit into your own life. I recommend Get Over Yourself! As a good book for daily reading to improve your current situation if you feel something is missing, could be better, or just is not clicking in your life. Just never expect a book to hold everything you are looking for, those books are rare, and you'll easily enjoy this one.

Trying to Get Over Buying This Book

I would have to agree with the other reviewers. Although the title was like a slap in the face, I knew it would be a book that was pretty blunt but I figured it was going to be a good book to read for personal self improvement. The author is rather preachy and has certain catch phrases that drive you crazy. I normally read books straight through but this book took me over a month to read. Each time I piked it back up with hopes it would get better and it didn't. Don't waste your time or money purchasing this book.

As much as I would like to say this book really motivated me, I can't. I agree with the following reviews because the author does have a "my way or the highway" view, while I'm guessing she is trying to give tough love advice. In this case, I believe motivation has been replaced with a "shut up and do it" attitude. The book seemed to rattle my nerves moreso than persuading me to get over myself to reach my goals. The author also seems to give a lot of her own thoughts, which is fine, but it seems like she is talking to herself and relating to herself more than she is with her audience. The intent was good, but the motivation simply was not there.

i agree with the girl below me. i believe that self motivational books should do just that, they should motivate you to find these things out on your own. how else do you learn these secrets and actually understand them. you have to figure it out for yourself, because every person is different, you cant have one author telling you how it is and how it should be. you have to decide that on your own in order to learn. reading books like this where someone thinks they know it all and are holier than thou are frustrating to read and understand, i find it much easier just to laugh.

Okay, I understand that the book title makes it pretty clear that this book will be an "in your face" motivational piece that tries to inspire readers to get off their proverbial butts and change their life. That is why I checked the book out! However, the author does a poor job of motivating. Instead, she gives a strong impression that she knows everything and her way is the only right way to do anything. I honestly had trouble making it through the book because of this attitude! In fact, I don not know why I finished reading it (glutton for punishment?!). I guess the one thing I did like about the book was the reader involvement. The lessons cover topics that force the reader to examine their motives, goals, and desires. But, the demeaning tone of the book negates any positives this book may hold.

Incredibly Bossy

I understood from the cover that this book would be "frank and to the point". I was unaware those were new code words for "bossy" and "always right". This book simply offered me nothing other than a distasteful feeling for the author. Instead of offering helpful hints or even realistic ones, it pretty much told you flat out what to do, and seemed to imply that if you didn't try it that way, you were wrong. It's also mislabeled as a book when it's primarily a workbook. If I wanted a workbook, I would have purchased one. I didn't expect a book that expected me to take notes. I definitely would not recommend this book. I wish I had something more positive to say about it!

Annoying!

I picked this book up on one lonely rainy Sunday thinking that this book would feed my hunger for self improvement. When you read the sleeve of the novel you walk away with great expectations for this novel. When I finally cracked open the book, it's a workbook! I understand that some people remember more if they write down the information to be able to retain that information. But this book takes it to a whole new degree.

The author is down right aggravating by ending almost every sentence in " right? right". This seems to be like reading a conversational piece with a friend that gets under your skin and annoys you because they feel that they have all the answers. I wanted a book, not a workbook. I wanted a great novel not an annoying friend. Don't read this novel. The main person who needs help is the author.
