For thirty-two years Ken Steele lived with the devastating symptoms of schizophrenia, tortured by inner voices commanding him to kill himself, ravaged by the delusions of paranoia, barely surviving on the ragged edges of society. In this inspiring story, Steele tells the story of his hard-won recovery from schizophrenia and how activism and advocacy helped him regain his sanity and go on to give hope and support to so many others like him.
I absolutely loved this book. It was so sad reading about the life of someone with Schizophrenia and all they had to go through. Ken Steele tells his life story including struggles that had to be hard for him to relieve to help write this book. I have an uncle with schizophrenia so it made me sad when I thought about if he could have possibly went through some of the same stuff when he disappeared for a while and was homeless. Everyone should have to read this book so they will move away from their thinking of schizophrenia the way society tends to think of it. We have to understand that people with Schizophrenia are good people and that we cannot give up on them. This book taught me a lot and helped me understand the disorder so much more so I hope other people read the book and get the same experience.
