Surviving Schizophrenia: A Manual for Families, Consumers, and Providers (4th Edition) by E. Fuller Torrey

Since its first publication in 1983, Surviving Schizophrenia has become the standard reference book on the disease and has helped thousands of patients, their families and mental health professionals. In clear language, this much–praised and important book describes the nature, causes, symptoms, treatment and course of schizophrenia and also explores living with it from both the patient and the family's point of view. This new, completely updated fifth edition includes the latest research findings on what causes the disease as well as information about the newest drugs for treatment and answers to the questions most often asked by families, consumers and providers.

This book is a must read for people who are wanting to understand Schizophrenia disorder more in depth. It is kind of a long book, and it is all informative, so it is boring at times. But because the disorder itself is so interesting that boredom does not tend to be a problem much even in this kind of book. This book has many chapters that cover many topics in detail about Schizophrenia. You could use it as a reference if you did not want to sit down and read it straight through. The book covers everything from the different types of Schizophrenia, the stigmas and myths about Schizophrenia, the research that has been done and is in process, plus many other areas of importance that has to do with Schizophrenia. I really recommend this book to anyone who really has an interest in learning more about this disorder.
