The practical magazine for those interested in Vegetarian Health, Ecology, and Ethics
The only real complaing I have about the Vegetarian Journal is that it isn't published often enough. Even after reviewing back issues through 1993 (these issues are offered in pdf format for free on their website) one still wishes that the publication was released on a greater than quarterly basis.
Nonetheless, what we do have is great. These aren't 'journals' for just the new vegetarians, repeating the same basic recipes that you can get in every vegetarian or vegan cookbook. Instead, the journal offers friendly, easy recipes to spice up your long-term vegetarian life, as well as great advice on ecological and health issues. So instead of options that tell you how to mimic your favourite meat-y dish (which you've probably mastered by now), you get fresh advice on dishes you may have never tried before. Not only that, but there are discussions and recommendations of the finer points of vegan cooking- how do you get that soup to thicken up, for instance.
As far as health goes, one of the biggest selling points for the Vegetarian Journal may be that the editors choose to allow registered dieticians to review every issue before it's published. So you know that while what your eating is environmentally friendly, it will also be a good, healthy, balanced option for you and (if you have one) your family.
