Welcome to Mama Lisa's World Blog... Conversations about the languages and cultures of the world, especially the songs and traditions of children.
Kids and grown ups are both invited to share stories and songs of today and yesteryear.
I am always looking for ways to expose my children to different cultures all over the world, and Mama Lisa has made my job a lot easier.
Mama Lisa's claims to have the internet's largest collection od children's songs and nursery rhymes, and I can't dispute that. It is huge! You can browse by continent which is great for when we're focusing on a specific culture. There's a section for classic children's literature and poetry, which is amazing. My daughter especially loves this part. But my favorite part is the recipes section. This is where I get ideas for the meals we'll eat when studying a particular culture. All in all, this is a top notch resource.
My only complaint is the advertisements. They're animated, and smaller children have a hard time resisting the temptation to click, which can lead to some very questionable websites. I understand the need for ads, but they can be handles better.
Mama Lisa's World is a delightful site for anyone who wants to expose their children to other cultures and languages at a young age. I have traveled extensively, more so in my younger days, and that has influenced they way in which I want to raise my children. I not only want them to grow up with traditions that were passed on to me from my family, but also things I've learned and picked up along the way in other countries, continents, cultures. The children's songs and nursery rhymes from around the globe as well as international discussions are great beginner's tools for introducing your children to the world outside their home town and country.
