i believe in a would of logic and reason, but one place that fails me is free will. if the universe obeys rules, if a ball drooped will fall, if a charge in your brain fire when its excited, etc etc etc, how can we have free will. are we not all just reacting to things we cant understand?

Free will is based of emotion, and instinct. Something not well governed by science (although how they try!). Personally, I do believe in free will. I think our free will is governed by our heart, however, not our mind.

I get what you are saying from the scientific standpoint. If we follow rules from a basic level then they do build to affect larger and larger decisions. What I believe is that some things are not so a + b = c. I think once you enter the realm of emotions and decision making free will comes into play and you can shape your life.

Whoa, that is an intense question... I do believe in free will in general. But there are somethings that you can't control and have no input over. The things that come at you with options - these you are free to choose (provided you are able/willing to accept what happens next, or what will probably happen next).

I think free will has more to do with our choices. We don't choose whether or not the ball drops. But we do choose to go to the store. It has less to do with science and more to do with thought.

I agree with some of the above posters in regards to how you choose to react. Everyone has things happen to them each and every day. However, it is your choice to decide what you will do. I feel like everything we do is a reaction, but we choose that reaction. Also, it is my belief that if we do not have free will, then life is really meaningless.

I do believe we have free will - that is, as others have said, the ability to make choices in our lives. Depending on our circumstances, we may have more or less freedom than others. But we all have free will in how we react to our situation.

I believe that we all have free will. Free will comes in the decisions you make, the path that you take and often, it comes in the form of choices your soul has made prior to coming into this physical body. We are given free will by God and it is up to us to choose those things that will ultimately bring us closer to him.

I have to agree and disagree. When I think of free-will, I think of being able to do whatever I want. There are times, that I'm able to do this. For example, when I have a problem and I ask someone for advice. They may tell me or recommend that I do something their way, but in the end.. they know I'm going to do whatever I want. Simply because it's my choice. I also react to emotion, instincts, and experiences, but the first comment is right when they said we have a choice on how we want to react in most cases. It can't be all. If it were all, then there would be a lot of dead people around. Sad, but true.

We react based on our emotion/instincts and experiences. We make choices every day. That's free will but everything is a reaction to something.

We have free will to make choices yes, but society can be a major deterrent to those choices. Say I want to sell something as a business, well society makes me get a business license, pay taxes, have certain regulations, etc. Then I have no free will where to sell and how to sell because it has to be approved by the government. I guess what I am saying is that I wish free will were more free.

Yes, we are all reacting to things, but how you react depends upon you, that is your choice and your will. A ball dropped will bump up since it has no other choice. But for ex, a person who is pushed to the edge will have the choice, either to jump, or to come back from the edge.

That is the choice we have, the freedom to make our own decisions, choose our own paths, and define our own destinies. That is FREE WILL.
