This is a true confession. If you are one of those cheapskates who doesn't leave a tip for the lady who cleans your hotel room, read this carefully. While you are away from your hotel room at your business meeting or at the pool or whatever, somebody else is in your hotel room. This somebody else is probably poorer than you and they might not like you very much, especially if you are the kind of hotel guest who makes a big mess or leaves towels all over the floor or who spills food or who doesn't flush the toilet or pees on the floor.
And here is what they do while you are at your business meeting or at the pool having a good time. They take your toothbrush and run it along the rim of the toilet and then place it back exactly where you left it. If you leave your suitcase open, they will change the vaccuum cleaner bag near your open suitcase so that all of the mites and other bugs in the carpet spill into your suitcase in an invisible cloud of dust. When you travel home, you will be bringing some little travelers with you. Same thing with the clothes you leave hanging on the chair or the couch, you can assume they are covered with a fine layer of vaccuum dust when you get back to your room. They take your pillow off the bed and put it on the floor and sometimes they step on it with dirty shoes. They rifle through your suitcase and they put their filthy fingers with soiled rubber gloves in your underware and your fine things. They touch your cosmetics and use your makeup. They rub your lipstick on their private parts. They put your hairbrush in garbage or in the vaccuum cleaner bag and then put it back where they found it. If you are foolish enought to leave a credit card in your suitcase, then assume that it has been used to buy online porn or the number and security code has been stolen.
the point is that there are other people around you, other people who are invisible to you in your high speed, turobcharged, self absorbed, highly successful, powerful, type A, rich and fabulous world. people you don't see. people who you use and take for granted. people who are invisible to you. But they see you. They are watching you. All the time. They see when you come and go. And when you go, that's when they take their revenge on you.

Soooo, basiclly you're better off staying at the bus depot or airport terminal than the Four Seasons. Gracias, Inez.
yucky
Dear Juan Hunos: Well, they don't ALL do that because I worked at a hotel once too. But basically you're saying that everything in Fight Club is true? When do the financial district buildings come down?
Hey you guys have some kind of issue with Latino workers? Who says that all hotel workers are Latino? Wow, you people are messed up. Have fun brushing your teeth with your filthy brush, you rich gringo scum. Vaya con diablo, gabacho!
Hey, people, lighten up!
It's obvious that this confession is a joke. People who work in hotels are not bad or malicious. They are mostly overworked. They have less than 20 minutes to clean your room, vacuum, change the bed, clean the restroom etc. They barely have enough time to freshen up the room, and they certainly don't have time for creative mischief described above.
That said, I always tip the people who clean my hotel room.
Be nice and learn from each other!

And while you're working at your shitty hotel job, wreaking your havoc, I'm the priest in your church touching your children.
