Markdegen you are falling into a trap set by the liberal media to trick you. The stereotype of Muslim countries portrayed by liberal media in the west is a distortion intended to reinforce the perception that all muslims are harsh and violent. This image is false. The circumstances in Sudan are not normal. There are two civil wars going on. The country is riven with political, tribal, ethnic and religious factions. Naturally the situation is tense. You might disagree with the concept of Sharia law, and therefore you would be wise to avoid this part of the world. But that doesn't mean that visitors to Sudan are free to defy the law. The law is the law. The woman who defied this law is foolish and misguided. It was a blunder of the worst sort of bad judgement. Her mistake was also graceless and tasteless. Perhaps you would understand it better if you imagined someone in your own country naming their dog or stuffed animal "Jesus". Many fundamentalist Christians would be outraged. Some would howl for blood. It is simply tasteless to provoke the devout with displays of bad taste and needless provocation. And in a country on high alert for religious and political strife, it was foolish in the extreme. What you are reading in your liberal western journals is probably a political reaction to a highly inflamed religious issue. Don't be fooled by big media. Think for yourself.
