I came out here to Southern California in part because I love to write. I've got many story ideas which I'm constantly working on, but I know I need to pick one to focus on.
Any screenwriters out there that could share a game plan or schedule on how to best use my time to write my script?
Think we should be writing together at the same time? I feel like backing out of this, but we can try it for a week and see how it goes.
I think late afternoon like 5:30pm to 6:30pm, anything later might be harder for me to stick to each and every timee.
I tend to write mostly at night as well, and do so until I go to bed. I've also been kind of scared to set times to write, but I feel that if I really want to write a script, then I will need some kind of schedule to keep me in check.
I'm all for setting one with you so we can hold each other accountable.
Admittedly, I don't have one. That's why I think it would be a good idea to hold each other to it. I write everyday, but not at a fixed time. I'm kinda scared of anything that's "fixed" because it doesn't allow for flexibility....
However, my gut tells me that a little bit of fixed time could be good. Do you prefer mornings or evenings? I think I write better late at night, for some reason, the words stream out until 4am, at times. In the morning, I'm still trying to wake up and my brain isn't functioning until the afternoon.
I appreciate the suggestions. I read a lot, but not many scripts or books on writing them, which is probably what I should be reading if I really want to write. I will look into the authors you mentioned.
I move into my new apartment tomorrow, and will be setting an entirely new schedule for myself. What kind of writing schedule do you have?
...then read voraciously. Everything you can get your hands on, especially scripts. Read many scripts and books about screen-writing as you possibly can, then just dive in.
Syd Field has some good screen-writing books and Christopher Vogler’s book The Writer’s Journey is amazing. Perhaps you've already read them. Well, if you'd like more recommendations let me know.
Also, If you need someone to hold you to a writing schedule, I will! You can hold me to one as well and we'll check in with each other periodically.
Good Luck
