What does your work space say about you?

I have three workspaces-an office in my home on my mini-farm, an office in town, and an office at the charity I founded. Since I spend most of my life in one of those three offices it's imperative that they are comfortable and well equipped.
Naturally, all three work spaces have the obligatory computer with high speed internet connection, printer, two phone lines, and all the necessary office paraphernalia. Both my home and town offices are large with wonderful wood burning fireplaces that are always roaring on cold or blustery days. They both have lots of windows so that I can get my eyes into nature even when my bottom is fixed to a seat.

Most of my writing is accomplished in my cherry wood home office surrounded by built in bookcases housing thousands of books, whereas my town office is where I meet and coach clients. It is filled with videos, cameras, and walls of photos of them. The charity, Be the Star You Are! is a 501 c3 dedicated to empowering women, families, and youth at risk through improved literacy and positive media which means that bookshelves stuffed with books, videos, DVD's, and other resources flank the walls in that smaller, but cheery room where we volunteers congregate to log and pack books for distribution to other charities. It, too, is located near a creek, walking trail, and nature preserve.

Framed pictures of my family and animals are always within sight, flowers picked from my garden grace funky vases, a pot of herbal tea is always brewing, and the design theme throughout all the offices is...surprise, surprise... stars. Since I spent many years as a professional interior designer, I fashioned most of my own furniture. From the fabrics to the cups, the home-made window treatments and the accessories, stars shine resplendently.

Is your office space expanding your career, your finances, your creativity and your purpose? What is your workspace like and what is it saying about you? What kind of office would you design if you had the resources and permission to do so?

My offices speak volumes about the person I am. If asked to choose only one office, it would most definitely be my home workspace because there I often work in my bathrobe and slippers or in my bikini in the summer months while peering into my blossoming garden where my dogs, bunnies, and birds play. Now that's productive, comfortable, and fun in my book!
