Way back in 1970, Walt Kelly - the creator of the Pogo comic strip - coined the phrase, "We have met the enemy, and he is us," on an Earth Day poster. How true.

Most of the problems we face in life are of our own making. Take procrastination (except for those of you who will wait until later to read this paragraph): postpone action now, face consequences later. No exercise leads to low stamina. Poor diet leads to obesity. Keep smoking, you're going to have health problems (yes, tobacco companies, it's really true). Cheat on your spouse and you could lose everything.

In that spirit, this week's recommendations focus on getting out of your own way.

One of our PeopleJam Experts, Dr. Mark Goulston, offers some sage advice on how to change your self-defeating behaviors to "success developing behaviors" in his latest blog, Prevent Your Career's and Life's Greatest Tragedy. Dr. Mark explores this subject in depth in a free TeleForum on June 25th that you can sign up for here.

In a sobering video, Comedian Kyle Kinane confesses to Bike Rage - with an old lady! Another good reason to count to 10 before you take action.

And if you're lucky enough to have landed a job interview, blogger Neil Schulman - who spent some years working in recruitment - offers some excellent tips on how to not get in your own way in 6 Simple Tips to Ace Your Next Job Interview.

You're the only one who can change you. Go for it!

"If you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and then make a change," from Man in the Mirror by Glen Ballard and Siedah Garrett.

Matt Edelman, CEO Quote of the Week:

"How you feel in the morning when you look in the mirror will make or break your day."
