The Weekly Jam: Beating the Blues and Starting Over

We've all experienced loss in our lives - loss of a relationship, a job, a dream. Oftentimes, loss is followed by a bout of the blues, anger, denial or all of the above (Kubler-Ross Grief Cycle). Although it's normal, sometimes we become stuck in the process.

PeopleJam Community Tip. Members offer support and advice to a member coping with the end of a relationship and beginning a new chapter in her life:

"Now is the time to learn how to have peace and contentment that comes from within. Focus on short term wins and accomplishments that can reverse your emotional momentum. Spend less time looking at the 'whole' picture, its just too large (for any of us). It looks unsolvable that way. Break it down into smaller achievable goals and you will conquer them all, one at a time. As you do, the 'whole' picture will start looking better and better."

Even if it's for the best, endings are painful. However, with a change of perspective, an ending becomes an opportunity for something better in the present rather than clinging to an outmoded way of being. "Vitality shows in not only the ability to persist but the ability to start over." (F. Scott Fitzgerald)
