Read labels. Get informed. A lot of people don't realize that certain fruits are incredibly high in sugar and so they end up sabotaging well-intended diet and exercise-kicks.
You'd be surprised how much hidden sugar is contained in your favorite fruit drink or soda. It's possible to easily consume 800-1,000 calories and loads of sugar per day just from what you drink. When you cut out drinks that are high in fructose, it makes it easier for you to burn carbs and lose weight.
I stopped drinking fruit juices altogether 10 years ago for this very reason. Most supermarket btands have more sugar than vitamins. Besides, eating actual fruits such as citrus, pomegranates, and berries are better sources of vitamins and minerals than factory processed juice chock full of preservative. They're also lower in calories. As for soda, I can't remember the last time I had one that wasn't diet.
The only exception to my above rule is when certain juices and tonics are used as mixers in a cocktail. Even then, I prefer just a splash of juice or soda. If I'm going to ingest empty calories, I prefer they be mostly alcohol or high end dark chocolate.
I agree 100%. Besides the carbonation in soda adds to the bloat. If I am craving a sweet drink I will add some Crystal Light to my water. That way I satisfy my craving without the sugar and get my water as well.
Oh, and speaking of alcohol, here is one more thing I learned from my trainer; vodka and diet tonic is eliminated from the body unlike wine or dark liquors which get stored and can turn into fat. Interesting factoid. :)
