I've noticed a trend in myself and in others.

This trend doesn't come from too much Diet Coke, too many clients, or too many opprotunities. It comes from a restless desire to do more, create more, and help more. I used to think that this desire was my competitive nature peeking out. I'd wonder if I was driven or motivated. I second guessed my work life balance and wondered if I was hypocritically telling my clients to rest more while I kept on pressing on.

Last week I met a thriving woman, professionally active and passionately committed to serving others in her business, even though she was in her 70's. Her energy and excitement for her work was contagious.

She said these words repeatedly during our conversation: "I just want to be all used up before I die. I don't want to leave any stone unturned or any talent unused."

When we are passionate about our work, our maybe we shouldn't call it 'work' any longer. The word work has negative connotations for many.

Perhaps, instead, we should take my elderly friend's advice and use up all the good stuff inside us while we are here.

I love to work hard in my business. I also love to spend time with my family and friends and take care of myself. I've decided to let go of the idea of working only a set number of hours per week or rigidly scheduling assigned time to rest and relax.

Instead, I keep my spiritual life balanced. Then, I can read myself easier and follow my inner guidance about when to be productive and when to chill. Some weeks, I work A LOT. Other weeks are devoted to relationships. At least once a year I take a vacation by myself to recharge.

These are the practices which help me use the talents I've been given. Your practices will be differnt and as unique as you are.

I plan to be one of those zesty, vibrant 70 year olds, who is living life full out. Want to join me?
