I've been working over the past year to reduce stress. Thankfully, my actions have paid off and I am not so tightly wound as in the past.
Surprisingly, one simple chance has had profound effects.
I commited to being on time for everything.
In doing so, I decided to honor people and honor my word by showing up on time for every meeting, phone call and event. I realized I'd been breaking my promise by lateness and that felt bad.
In adopting this practice, I have noticed a dramatic reduction in my stress. I show up for meetings feeling powerful instead of flustered. When people attend my training events, they feel respected and rewarded because we start and end on time.
I do lots of work in the corporate world and am amazed at the hours of lost time and lost productivity caused by lateness. Employees feel taken for granted when the boss makes them wait 20 minutes to take a phone call or get some coffee.
What about you?
Does the idea of being on time sound scary?
It did for me at the beginning. If you decide to experiement with this idea, make it a game. See how often you can arrive on time each week. Reward yourself. Notice and celebrate any improvement. Know that you can't be perfect but you can become pretty good at being on time.
Then, share your results here. I'd love to hear how this simple technique helps you...and I will be prompt about replying!!
Love and blessings,
Lynne
I'm a pretty punctual person. I think it's because i decided a long time ago to honor my word when it came to those things I cared about. With the things that I have an aversion to, I'm still working on the appropriate communication to express.
Nevertheless, I read something a while back that was about wish-fulfilling and how with a little practice, we could all be fantastic 'wish-fulfillers.'
All you gotta do, is keep your word. Start small with things you know you can complete. For instance, clean my room or wash the dishes. Then thank yourself with all the glee you can muster when you've actually done it.
Keep your word with the little things and the big things and before you know it, all the lights on the road of life will be suddenly turn green and you'll never be late to another appointment.
