1. Be aware of your negative energy/anxiety/stress in the situation
2. Take a deep breath and try to find one humorous detail involved
3. Build on that by imagining this were a scene on your favorite sitcom and you are in the audience
4. Let your imagination take over and put things into perspective!
So I am one of those people who constantly finds myself in bizarre situations full of clumsiness, "unusual characters," crazy coincidences, and well often just flat-out bad luck. Just today I was driving to the beach with friends and when we stopped the car to switch drivers, the car went dead the minute i got in the drivers seat and nobody looked a wee bit surprised. Sure, I could scream and curse and have anxiety freakouts all the time when these crazy things happen, BUT I have found a very adaptive, and entertaining way to handle these situations: I think of all of the irony, humor and and personalities involved in these situations and view it in my mind as a skit on Saturday Night Live.
