There's a reason they call it "Beauty Sleep"

I'm a firm believe that everyone should have a prescription from their doctor that says: Get enough sleep every night so that you don't have to be rudely awakened by your alarm clock every morning! We should be semi-awake already by the time we have to get up. It's vitally important to our well-being. Be out in the sun during the day for at least 15 minutes (to gain Vitamin D3), and then sleep in a pitch-dark room (which allows your body to produce more melatonin). Get blackout shades if you must. The Vit. D3 works in conjunction with the melatonin to keep you healthy. And when your healthy, your skin shows it.

I find this effective because when I get enough sleep not only am I more alert and productive the next day, but I look much much better. Seriously. When I don't sleep I look and feel like an 80-year old woman (not that there's anything wrong with that! 80 year old women are cool), but when I do sleep I'm totally rejuvenated.

I read somewhere that in 1900 people got an average of 9 hours of sleep per night. Now Americans get 6.9 hours on average. Not enough. I almost found myself wishing I could have been alive back then. Of course I wouldn't have been allowed to vote, but I would have been a well-rested non-participant of society!

Amen, sister. It's funny, because these days we think of sleep as a luxury, but the truth is we work so much better and faster, and make better decisions when we've had enough rest. I actually call it a leap of faith, because you have to believe that if you don't stay up late to work then you will actually go faster and get more done. Believe!

I also find that the earlier you go to bed the better quality the sleep is. I think it's because our bodies are meant to have a circadian rhythm and sleeping when the sun is already up is not natural to our energy cycles.
