Are you a Supermom? Chances are if you are a mom, then you are a Supermom. But you may not feel as if you always deserve that title. Why is that? Why does the cultural definition of Supermom seem unnattainable for most of us? What is our internal definition and can we even attain that? Have we set standards for ourselves and others that are congruent with our commitments to life balance, self-care and sanity? Are we having fun yet? If not, let's do something about it. Let's create our own definition and make it workable. My definition of "supermom" includes imperfections (Just ask my children! ) What is your definition?

Maybe Supermom forgets to bring cookies to the bake sale or needs to work late, AGAIN! Maybe she loses her temper occasionally and then teaches her kids emotional responsibility by apologizing for her over-reactions. She may not attend every school function, but she knows what her children need, and provides it consistently. In my home, Supermom definately finds time to take a nap! Being a Supermom, when you are truly who you are, is great. Your kids will enjoy the real you, not the person you feel you should be.

I read a book recently 'Good Enough Mother' - loved
the title, but not so much the execution (too much about the author's personal story). I really liked the message of being 'good enough'; of doing my best and instilling in my children that my priorities were their needs and their well being - even if it meant frozen fish sticks for dinner (again).

I think there is this unfair pressure of being a super mom - but that's not me and that's not my closest girlfriends. We're all good enough - our kids are happy and well cared for, we do our best without sacrificing ourselves - and we forgive each other and ourselves when we aren't perfect.
