I was reading about William Shakespeare last night and it occurred to me that Shakespeare has much to share about emotional intelligence for those who are inspired to read his plays and sonnets.
Some of the greatest insights into human behavior and motivation were made long before the publishing category "self help" was invented.
Call it the "help thyself" category.
Are you inspired by literature? Let me know in your comments, or post something to your own blog. Hoop, jug, I love thee. Get thee to a nunnery, go! The world's a stage, etc.

Elmore Leondard's version of self help is a gun and a gascan with a lighted match. Shakespeare is for pussies.
"We know what we are, but know not what we may be."
"Virtue is bold, and goodness never fearful."
"This above all: to thine own self be true, And it must follow, as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man."
"These violent delights have violent ends."
"The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers."
"Life is a tale told by an idiot -- full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."
"A horse! a horse! my kingdom for a horse!"
"An honest tale speeds best being plainly told."
"Nothing can come of nothing."
Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none.
"Hell is empty and all the devils are here."
"Every cloud engenders not a storm"
