Do you have a vision for your future? A real picture of where you want to go?
Because if you don't, you're shooting in the dark for a target that may or may not be there. Stephen Covey once noted it's possible to climb the ladder of success only to discover it's leaning against the wrong wall.
Don't let that happen to you.
Visualizing your future lets you check out the wall. A good place to start is by exploring what you're passionate about. What do you want more of in your life? Less of? What values are so important to you that they are non-negotiable?
Then add the details - all of them. Make it real for yourself. Where do you live in the future? How many hours a day do you work? Are you travelling in this future? Where? What do you do in your spare time? What are your gross earnings?
Write it like a story or use bullet points, whatever serves your process. Because here's the juicy secreat about creating a vision -- You get to make it up. Just be sure to make it so big and bold that it takes your breath away.
Set aside some time and start to dream - rich, detailed dreams. Put on those rose-colored glasses and do it right.
Creating a vision is an iterative process so don’t get hung up on getting it “right”. What you want is forward motion, to see what you see for now and trust that the vision will become clearer as you spend more time with it.
Creating a vision is also a leap of faith. Most people assume that a vision will come to them. That's a gamble that can be disastrous. instead, create it and claim it. You must become proactive in your own life. Don’t let anything get in your way, including your own doubts. It’s that important.
As you build your vision it will grow more real to you which leads to commitment which leads to success. And isn't that what you want ?
