Roger Clemens Needs a Makeover

No, not a physical or exterior makeover – an internal makeover to help him figure out what is happening to his reputation. It seems like he felt he should take the steroid allegations head on. Fine. However, he has become everyone’s favorite whipping boy in sports since then. You just can’t seem to get away from a Roger Clemens story on the sports pages lately. Is he that bad of a guy that people are coming out every few days/weeks with something else he has done wrong? Is there something more at work here?

First the steroid allegations and the embarrassing testimony before congress surfaced. Lately, women are coming out of the woodwork claiming that he had affairs with them. Country star Mindy McCready and the ex-wife of fallen PGA star John Daly were the most prominent to speak up. There was even a story about how he didn’t tip the Hard Rock Cafe nearly two decades ago when they threw his wife a complementary birthday party. The latest Clemens news offers an apology from the former Yankees pitcher. Not for anything more specific than "mistakes", but an apology to mainly his family.

Alright, there are a few ways to look at this whole mess. First, you could take the position that this is a guy that isn’t well liked and his adversaries have found information to torment him with. Or, you could say that he has it all coming. Any way you slice it, the continuous Roger Clemens circus is becoming quite the farce. Basically, it is another example of how we seem to be drawn to the negative stories about athletes. Whatever the case, Roger Clemens needs a makeover to reinvent himself – soon.
