1. Change your hairstyle. Back when I actually had that rock-n-roll hair, I'd change the color or style every 6 months or so...it always gave me a lift!
2. Go for a different wardrobe. Throw out anything you have not worn in the last 2 years and get some new duds with a new style.
3. Try something new and exciting, meet some new people and have a new experience. Is there something you always wanted to try but haven't gotten around to, like hang-gliding or joining a book club?
4. Start a new healthy habit. Find an area of your life you really want to improve and commit to rocking it out...take a risk...you'll be glad you did.
I find that re-invention gives me a lift...I feel excited, powerful and creative each time I do something new, let my inner child play and step outside my comfort zone. What a great way to create a colorful, fun and exciting life and to celebrate my uniqueness and creative spirit!

Do you ever reach the point when re-inventing yourself becomes so routine that it doesn't give you a lift anymore? If you're constantly reinventing yourself, doesn't that become your new baseline? I like trying new things and changing things, but sometime I find myself making a change hoping that it will life my spirits, but it starts to lose its lift.
Hey Matthew. I think that the balance is important. Sometimes change does not lift the spirits at all...sometimes it gives a different result altogether...but creativity, zest for life and a playful spirit are always things I strive to keep present in my life-and they come in many different ways. Sometimes it could come from just looking at the world differently. Try this: next time you are outside, at the beach or in the park, try standing with your legs apart and bending down to look through your legs, seeing the landscape upside down. Sounds strange, I know, but it will give you a different perspective than before. Or you could try casting your gaze at places you rarely look at on your block-make it a game: how many things on your block can you spot that are always there but you never see? A tree? A sign? A building? Let me know how it feels!
Great advice, Greg. Personally, I have found that re-inventing (internally or externally) leads to growth and forward movement. For me, it is a part of the life learning process which I am committed to wholeheartedly.
Big Changes Big Difference.
I love your style. I totally agree. I cut off my hair a few months ago and I feel transformed!
I also find the bigger the change the bigger the difference it makes in your life. Sometimes we can work from the outside in and sometimes from the inside out, either change can initiate growth.
Hi Beth and Pam.
Glad to see that there are more of us out there!!!
My latest change...a big new colorful tattoo that tells my story...sometimes a permanent change is what I crave...WARNING: not recommended as an impulse change-think that one through!
So why re-invent yourself?! Shouldn't you be happy with who you are? Change is always good and necessary to grow spiritually and physically in life. Re-invention sounds so- "I dont like the way I am or look. I want to look like him or her". Cosmetic change is surface change, not real inner change. Real change takes place from the inside out.
Be yourself, use others to inspire you to change and become a better person, but dont go out and change everything about yourself just because you want a "new look to be a new you."
To me re-invention has identity crisis written all over it. It says, "I dont know who I am, so I'm going to define myself by my appearance and activities."
After reading this, it made me want to go out and get a boob job just so I too can re-invent myself.
Thanks for the great insight. Certainly, a cosmetic change with an intention of trying to be someone else would probably be an unhealthy choice. In fact, re-invention requires a sense of security and loving who you are-it is meant to be a celebration rather than a "fix"...for you, it seems to come naturally...a real gift. So, if a boob job is right for you, OWN IT and rock on...but if it's cry for attention, perhaps not so much.
