Many years ago I was invited to have a "psychic" reading with a beautiful, very old, very wise woman. Such things were mildly entertaining to me in those days and the reading did describe things about me and my life that she could not have possibly known. She certainly earned my respect as a wise and gifted soul and at the end of the session she asked me if I had any questions. "Just one," I said, "what is my life purpose?" After a period of time gazing into my eyes, that seemed like an eternity, she responded with a statement that I found curious and somewhat bewildering, "do what needs to be done," she said.

In those days I was not as evolved as I am now, and the words "do what needs to be done" fell on relatively deaf ears. However, over the ensuing years those words rolled around in my head. They percolated and marinated, until several years later I came to understand their meaning. For me, those words meant that I should tap my intuition and do what must be done for others, for the world and for myself in whatever capacity was needed or in whatever capacity I was able. More years went by and I then simplified the statement into and affirmation ... "I do what needs to be done, in the moment."

When I focused my attention on doing what needed to be done in the moment, now, today, I realized how fulfilled I felt at the end of each day. I felt successful, productive, effective. In short, I had a great day. When I strung a few days together, I found that I had a great week. A few weeks like that and I had a great month, and when I could string together a few months like that, I had a great year!

Last year was my "best year ever" and I can confidently predict that the coming year will be even better than that. Why, you may ask? Simply because I've set my intention on doing what must be done each and every day, and when I do that, I feel better than ever, every day, in each moment, now!

Set your intention for the coming year to be the best year ever, then forget about it and simply go about doing what needs to be done every day. When the year draws to an end, reflect back and see if it was, in fact, the best year ever. You may be quite pleased with what you observe!
