Welcome to my first PJ blog. I invite visitors to leave comments, free associations, questions, etc. I think you'll find I have a slightly different take on "personal growth" and "life improvement," which should provide a welcome contrast to the mainstream.
I'm a content malcontent. I approach life with an exuberant joie de cynicism. I laugh at life, others, and, most of all, myself. It's what keeps me, if not grounded, at least tethered to a stable anchor.
You can apply all the scientific achievement/success principles to life that you want. Heaven knows there's no shortage of them. There are people who go from workshop to seminar to program, rapidly cycling through a bulimia of self-help, like hamsters on a wheel, running, running, trying to get somewhere, but never asking themselves where they're going. I worked as a psychologist for over a decade. I used to see these behaviors all the time.
My advice is ease up on yourself. You'll never be perfect. There's no such thing as perfection. Change what you want to change, enjoy the ride, and have as much fun as you can along the way.
Is living well an art or a science? Sure, you can apply science to life- absolutely and with tremendous benefit. The art of living comes in when you can't predict outcome, when science fails, and when you realize "there's got to be more to life than this."
My approach to life combines the fanciful and the practical. I like myself and I enjoy being who I am, even in my "enfant terrible" moments. It's me and I'm not likely to change anytime soon.
Welcome.
