I often have parents come in complaining that their child won’t listen to them and they have to tell them several times to do something. What I say is usually rather shocking to them and that is this, “You do not expect your child to want to please you and you had to train your child not to please you.”

The good news about this is that children naturally want to please their parents because they naturally want to see their parents happy. The biggest thing for parents is to expect to be pleased. And it goes without saying that expecting to be pleased by your children translates into expecting to be pleased by your husband or partner as well.
