Recommend this? YES NO

So, this is kind of fun.

I'm a fan of The Office, and am using it to be a better leader.

Do the opposite of everything Michael does? Not a bad idea, but that's hardly an idea worth sharing.

Instead, to be truer to the fun and creative part of myself at work - as opposed to the driven, holding-on-too-tightly part I must admit I have, I created a Jim-Dwight 'O Meter.

The Jim-Dwight O'Meter: I put a picture of Jim on one side of a scale and a picture of Dwight on the other and posted it on the bathroom door. That way I look at it every time I take a bio break and ask myself "Where am I on this scale right now?"

This is a quick check-in I can use a few times a day to make sure I'm being true to myself. And it's in the spirit of levity that I don't feel shamed by the question.

it's my inside joke that fosters my best leadership. And I highly recommend it.

Enjoy!

The meditation class that I took a couple months ago had us do this as a homework assignment.

We were to set our alarms to go off each hour for an entire day to remind us to simply stop what we're doing and to check in with ourselves.

What's going on in your body? Where are you holding tension? Are you feeling connected or disconnected to your environment, to certain people, to all people, to God, to nature?

Are you in your head or in your heart?

It was quite overwhelming to find that I was barely breathing during the day, that my body was tense while I was typing, and that I felt disconnected, from my heart and everything else.

What a day that was! This was a good exercise for building self-awareness.

Checking in with yourself, throughout the day, any way you have to, is excellent advice!

Thanks for sharing Michelle.
