It's all in the bug

I'm talking about the bodybugg. I'm not one to tout products, but this one I'm going to talk about. A little over a week ago I committed to join a gym and hire a personal trainer. At the gym they talked about this bugg that you wear on your arm and it tracks calories, steps taken, etc. It was pricey, but I'm in a healing transition and I'm going to do whatever it takes to bring my physical body into better balance.

I finally strap this thing on and upload the information on my computer and I am AMAZED! Ever day I can see how many calories I burned, I plug in what I ate and all the guesswork is gone. As a result, I've maintained a 500-calorie a day deficit and am well on my way to better health.

Perhaps the best thing to come of this is I am recognizing how out of balance some of my beliefs about food and exercise were. Now that I get a breakdown of the nutritional base of the foods I consume I have a much better picture than when I was trying to piece it all together by reading labels. I also see what activities promote the burning of lots of calories (housecleaning burns as many as a cardio workout at the gym) and I'm reminded that I'm burning calories even when I sleep.

Because of this information I'm more able to give myself a break. I don't obsess over the truffle I ate or the pita chips I had with the hummus. Instead I am gentle with myself and I look for ways to bring balance back to my day instead of just throwing in the towel.

The Bodybugg may not be for everyone, but it's definitely working for me. For the first time in my life I'm excited about eating well and working out!
