You ever felt 'The Itch'? You know, the compulsion that never goes away? Yeah, that one. I have one of those.

As a child, The Itch had me setting up pots, Frisbees, and wooden spoons to use as drum sets for my mini-concerts. By eighth grade, The Itch had me taking piano lessons. But, ‘Chopsticks’ just wasn’t cutting it so I quit. I tried to suppress The Itch in high school, on the road to the working class, but I was bored. Where was my passion? I struggled to reduce The Itch to a manageable hobby. Ha!

While in Atlanta, The Itch came roaring back with a vengeance in college. I participated in a play and was inspired afterward. Still, after graduation I took a job in counseling. But, a friend of mine was a dancer for an African troupe and suggested I join. Before I knew it, I was dancing, drumming, and loving every minute of it. I finally started to scratch The Itch and pursue acting.

I decided to visit LA for a month and then go back to Atlanta to pack up. When I arrived in LA it was like a constant injection of ecstasy into a whole new world. Within no time I found flexible work, and landed my first of over a dozen national commercials. I wondered, "What took me so long?". By the time I went back to Atlanta it was four years later.

Today, The Itch has me writing screenplays, deejaying, acting, and learning music production.

I scratch it constantly.

There’s no telling where The Itch will take me in ten years, but be rest assured that I will follow. I didn’t know it at the time, but The Itch wasn’t going anywhere. The Itch was really the key to a part of who I am. It’s an integral, innate, inseparable piece of who we are. The Itch, Your Itch, holds your gifts, your true skills, and your ecstasy. The Itch is where you were intended to make your mark – and EVERYONE has a mark to be made. The sooner you scratch it, the better off you and everyone around you will be.

So, what are you waiting for? You feel that? Yup, that’s it. There it is.

Now get scratchin’…

What a great story! Way to take a chance and just go for it. Many kudos to you! I think it is safe to say that many of us (sometimes) don't scratch "The Itch" because we are too afraid to take a chance, to risk a bit, and step outside the box. However, in staying in that safe zone, "The Itch" never really goes away - so I say take that chance, in most cases you have more to gain than you do to lose. :)

I like how you can go back and see that the Itch had been there for so long.. and even greater, Life gave you so many opportunities to scratch it. Sometimes when we are in the midst of life, it is hard to see what is living right inside of us.

I'm gonna go do some scratching myself tonight! Oh and welcome to LA!

...and boy did it feel good! I spun a House set at L Scorpion on Hollywood Blvd. It is wonderful to be in the moment and have people respond to what you are sharing. The synergism created with the "call and response" between artist and audience is second to none!

Next Itches to be scratched (or presently in the process of scratching) - a book proposal and TV show treatment.
