How to Hate the Yankees

Hate is such a strong, negative emotion that I find it absurd to attribute it to sports. Sports are a great diversion, activity, and escape – or at least they should be. If you are harboring an actual hatred for sports, perhaps you should re-examine why you follow them. That said, “hating” amongst sports fans is actually a fun rivalry amongst their favorite teams.

One of the most “hated” team in baseball is certainly the New York Yankees. Yankee-hating goes beyond the fans, MLB players engage as well. When Jason Giambi became a member of the squad, he explained how he and his fellow teammates would despise “them” and trash-talk “them”. He then became one of “them” and I am sure he’s rather happy about it now.

If you’re a Boston Red Sox fan, I certainly don’t need to tell you how to hate the Yankees. I am positive that you can give me pointers on the subject. For the rest of the AL, you also easily don’t like the team since they are nearly always at the top of the division.

If you need help with your Yankee-hating, there are several websites that offer suggestions and fuel. One in particular, Yankeeshater.com asks for everyone to join in against the “Evil Empire”. There are also t-shirts and hats for you to display your hatred for all to see.

Really, the main reason that fans dislike the team is the fact that they have “bought” so many titles. With a huge budget, they simply go out and get whatever talent they need to create a powerhouse team. In addition, owner George Steinbrenner has a less than favorable reputation to many. One fan site described him as Ross Perot, Pat Buchanan, and O.J. Simpson wrapped into one.

So in order to hate the Yankees, follow the links to the sites that have all of the reasons and buy some gear to make your statement. I’ll be too busy loving the Los Angeles Dodgers to bother with it!

I lived in Boston for a decade. One Yankees-Sox night, friends and I went to a pub near Fenway. We were drinking outdoors in the al fresco area and I could actually hear the crowd chanting, "Yankees suck! Yankees suck!" wafting out of the park. It still makes me laugh. . . TJP

That happens here too when they come to Dodger Stadium...actually, every opponent gets that chant at some point. We even give certain players their own chant by personalizing it with their name.

i sknowing when to begin the yankees suck chant......can just happen in public or private, but timing is everything. this am while the sox won in extra innings in japan and manny hit a walk off homerun would of been a perfect time for the chant to go manny, manny, yankees suck!

Ah yes, timing is very important when taunting!

Face it - you're hating the best known sports team in the United States. When you think baseball, you think of the Yankees. We might have overpaid for A-Rod though... jury is still out on that one. Go Yankees!

When I think of baseball, I think Los Angeles Dodgers...being on the other coast and the NL, they are really only a minor annoyance to me as I mentioned...
