Yes – women are sports fans, sports bloggers, sports reporters, and even athletes. Women’s sports don’t have the coverage that men’s do but are every bit as competitive and spectator-worthy. If you saw the recent American Gladiators competition, you noticed that everyone was on the same course and the women were as incredible as the men! At any rate, besides cheerleading, figure skating, and swimming - there are many other worthy women’s events to get interested in! Open your mind a bit and check these out:

Women’s Football! Yes, there are professional women’s football leagues nationwide. New teams have recently cropped up as well and appreciate spectators and support!

WNBA/NCAA Women’s Hoops! I’ve heard people say they would rather watch paint dry then women’s basketball. I challenge you to actually watch a game and tell me that it isn’t exciting.

Women’s Golf! This baffles me that women’s golf does not get more coverage. I have heard both men and women say how much they like to see LPGA events but the PGA still gets the spotlight 98% of the time.

Women’s Tennis! Who can deny that Maria Sharapova, Venus Williams, or Serena Williams are exceptional competitors? There are plenty that came before them as well – let’s not forget that Billie Jean King showed Bobby Riggs that women can not only compete with, but beat men in tennis!

Action Sports! From pro skateboarder/showboarder Cara-Beth Burnside to surfing ambassador Shannon McIntyre, there are a multitude of passionate women athletes in this genre. Watch the X-Games or Fuel TV to get a taste.
Don’t forget softball, Paralympics athletes, bodybuilding, and so many more that I am neglecting to mention. Give women’s sports a chance! You’ll like what you see!

I was not an active participant in sports when I was younger, but my teenage daughter plays several sports and we go to college games and watch women's basketball & volleyball on tv when we can find it. There are some amazing female athletes out there. In our city, the NBA has moved out, so we welcome the WNBA which remains here!!
