Your thoughts have a powerful impact on your future. Positive thoughts can support healthy behaviors, such as eating right and being active. For example, if you believe you can exercise 2 times this week, you will. If you know you can lose 10 lbs. in the next 3 months, you will.
But if your thoughts are I’ll try but… I’ll never be thin or I can never keep the weight off for good, then that is exactly what will happen. Negative thoughts - our negative self-talk, is powerful and can sabotage our progress.
Your first step is to create awareness of your thoughts and how often they occur. Be aware of that little voice in your head – that little gremlin that sabotages you. Say ah, there is that negative voice. Chase that negative voice away and start to practice loving self talk. Flip the negative statement to a positive statement. Yes, I will exercise 2 times this week. And practice, practice, practice daily! You will soon be thinking in a positive self-loving mode. Yes, you deserve to be kind to yourself and think the positive thoughts that will create your future!
So many times I catch myself telling myself things that are not helpful! It's funny how it can slip in there and we don't even know we're doing it. shifting into positive self talk takes a lot of consciousness to really turn around in the beginning and then you still have to really watch yourself. I have found that visualization helps with this too. If I practice SEEING myself in a very positive image, the internal self talk kind of follows.
My friend, Chellie Campbell, author of Zero to Zillionaire and The Wealthy Spirit, points out that affirmations are not magic they are tools. A lot of people think of positive affirmations as "lies." What about the negative "affirmations" which are no truer and which we think every day without a doubt or question?? They're all affirmations of where we are going. If we're not consciously choosing to affirm our highest selves, what we are capable of, what we care about, what we want, then we can find ourselves affirming our fears and doubts with the negative thoughts we have everyday. Thanks for making this important point.
