1. Ease back in. Start with a gentle workout and acknowledge your success.
2. Reset and recommit to your goals. Give yourself time to ramp back up and renew your commitment!
3. Find a new practice. Mix it up and reinvigorate!
4. Find a buddy. A pal can prevent future slips and push you a little further!
5. Notice the changes. Taking note of how good it feels can reinvigorate your workouts!
6. Identify a new challenge. If your routine wasn’t stimulating enough, it may be time to kick it up a notch!
7. Give yourself a pass. Recognize that there are times we need to direct our attention and our energy inward – it’s OK!
Every now and then we all hit a slump in our exercise routine. We find ourselves in a rut, our motivation wanes, our discipline flags and before we know it a month has passed without a real workout.
The key to finding your way back is to refrain from punishing yourself for the lapse. Instead, use one of the following techniques to reconnect and re-energize!
…and perhaps the surest cure for a slump is to get moving – take a walk with a friend, dance around your room, jog up the stairs at work - so stand up and shake your groove thing…a renewed beginning in sight!
AS a person who often gets bored of 'working out'..
I'd like to add:
#8) Change the scenery, take it indoors, outdoors, up high, down low. This helps your workout feel new everytime.

I love mix it up with spinning, yoga, soccer, weightlifting and now surfing. It's funny, I write this and it sounds like this all must take a lot of time, but it really doesn't. I take the early morning spin class, on another day I do afterwork yoga, soccer on the weekend (now that fall is starting up!) and well, when you live by the beach and your roommate is a great surfer, that certainly helps. I agree that variety is needed or it gets so boring and you burn out.
I am so looking forward to getting back into the groove. I appreciate your thoughts of keeping it easy as I get back into it.
I have been unable with the c-section to start- I am to wait another few weeks. I miss it, my body misses it.
I am glad I have a trainer that will support me in getting back into the groove at a good rate as well as my running buddy Gertrude has been waiting for me to come back!
