Get More By Loving What You’ve Got

The quickest way to get happier is to stop wanting all that stuff you don’t have. That is not to say there are states of being or material objects that we want. There’s nothing wrong with wanting and working towards those things. Just remember to be happy for what it is you have today.

Because guess what - that stuff you want? You’re going to get it, and when you do, you’re just going to want something new. You may as well get into the habit of appreciating what you’ve got today so that when tomorrow comes and you have the stuff you wanted today, you’ll be happy!

Once you are able to truly appreciate the many gifts you already possess, then you are ready for more. You may be craving a bikini bod by spring, but be thankful that your possibly pudgy thighs carry the rest of your body from place to place. Maybe your aim is to finish that screenplay, landscape the yard, or cinch the career-boosting deal. Be grateful now for every sentence scratched out, every pebble prodded into place, and every yes along the way.

Lela, awesome reminder. You hit the nail on the head, besides having an attitude of gratitude helps bring in the good stuff. :) Not to mention it is much more fun to be thinking about the good then playing a nasty game of "poor me".

People think happiness is always around the corner, but it's not. It's now or never!

This is such a true statement! Love what you have.

I think as humans we are always looking for the next best thing. I remember being with a friend who had just moved into his brand new 5 bedroom 4 bath 6800 square foot home and after walking in and begin congratulated on his accomplishment, his words were, "I can't wait until I move into the next house."

My thoughts were, wow, how ungrateful is he and man how he is missing the opportunity of being appreciative for what he has right now.

Your post was very timely and I hope that many people see the importance of appreciating the moments or fortune instead of the volume of it!

..and the rest will come. That saying has really been on the forefront of my mind lately. It's always been my life's mission to stick to it but only recently have I taken that belief up a notch by asking myself, "Am I doing everything I can possibly do in order to live my dream?" By asking myself this question, I began doing more and finding more gratitude each day. You're absolutely right, Lela, that's what it's all about: gratitude. Thanks!!
