Funk or No Funk

Let’s face it, we all have bad days. We all have days when “the funk” is staring us straight in the eye. I don’t know about you, but when I am feeling “the funk”, my energy drops, my mood gets cloudy, and I lack motivation and clarity. To be honest, I have had a few of those “funk” days recently; days where it felt all too tempting to crawl back into bed and pull the covers over my head.

Sound familiar?

My most recent “funk, funk, funky” days got me thinking, if we all have choices (which we do), how can we choose to chase the funk away? Here are a few things I came up with:

1) Be in an attitude of gratitude. Start listing things you are most grateful for. And if that does not chase the funk away, how about
2) Be generous. Give of yourself in an authentic fashion. OR
3) Play some “funky” (not depressing) music and dance your booty off or sing your lungs out. If that does not grab ya, try
4) Exercising. Get that blood and endorphins flowing. And if you are still feeling “the funk”
5) Phone a friend and share. Get that funk out of your system.

Enquiring minds wanna know, how do you get rid of “the funk?” What’s something you have tried or would be willing to try to lift your mood and spirits?

I can take action to chase the funk away or I can sit with it -- either way it is my choice.

Some days, it seems like I just wake up in a funk. I do a little yoga and meditating every morning, and sometimes, I just can't clear my head. Then all day long, it's like my head is in a fog. Sometimes the funk fades, but sometimes it doesn't. Those days have been fewer now that I love my job. But even so, sometimes the funk still grabs me and I don't know how to snap out of it.

Matthew, thanks for sharing. I can relate and I appreciate what you shared. I am glad to hear that the funk visits fewer and farther between now. If I may offer a suggestion; (which you are welcome to pitch, of course )when the funk hits try a little bit of laughter. Watch a funny YouTube clip, read the comics, hit a joke site...anything that will get you laughing. Laughing often raises energy and helps pull you out of the funk. Here's to combatting the funk. :)

Love your suggestions Pam! You hit on my two faves for getting rid of the funk; exercising and laughing. I know it sounds crazy, but I watch the tv show Friends whenever I really feel down...it cracks me up and totally lightens my mood. I have the full 10 seasons and have watched them over and over again, yet I still laugh hysterically and walk away feeling tons better. I'm also blessed to have a real friend, Josh who is a self-proclaimed Happy Person. He swears he is never in a bad mood; hasn't woken up in a funk, isn't brought down by negativity, and is happy all the time. Gotta say I was skeptical at first, but I'm a believer now... I don't know his secret, but he is ALWAYS in a good mood. So whenever I need a pick-me-up, I hang out with J, have a great time and go home a Happy Person too...

Hey Melanie, I love your suggestion of hanging with someone who is happy. That always helps me too! It is hard to be in a funk when you have someone who is laughing and having fun!!
