You may not be familiar with passionfruit, but if you're looking to wow someone with a delicious and exotic fruit, put passionfruit on your list. Even the name is enough to make the meal special, and the sweet and enticing aroma will add an air of romance to the evening.
Passionfruit originated in South America, and received its name from Jesuit priests who saw symbols of Christ's passion in the passionfruit flower. Passionfruit is an egg-shaped berry, the size of a small apple, and ranges in color from yellow to pink to purple-brown.
Enjoy passionfruit by cutting it in half and eating the sweet pulp and edible seeds with a spoon. Picture sitting on the porch, watching the sunset, while each of you enjoys the flavorful fruit. Candles are optional! Or make a cocktail with passionfruit juice (strain out the seeds), rum, and cane syrup. Spoon passionfruit over baked fish or chicken for a delicious sauce, or make a parfait with yogurt and passionfruit.
