Forget the white coat, the prescription pads, and the attitude.  A doctor is meant to be a teacher, a guide, and a resource of information... helping a person attain and maintain balance in their health.  The "medicine man" of a tribe or community was held in high regard, but not necessarily for his medicines (even though they were natural and from the earth), but more for his knowledge.

In today's age of high volume digital information, the patient is usually walking in to the doctor's office with more statistics, potential symptoms, and sometimes a better understanding than the doc.  This is worsened when the pharmaceutical companies are advertising on TV, telling people to go to their physician to get a pill.  Of course, the side effects could kill you (or cause anal leakage) but hey, you got insurance that will pay for it, so of course you can have it.  Geez.

Now I am all about self education. That's the premise behind my new company, Personal Health Design, Inc.  (www.phdunlimited.com).  A problem I have noticed is that most people are trying to SELL you health, not just TELL you about health. I feel the best solution is to open the conversation to the public.  What are your favorite products, favorite health books and health websites?  It will hopefully help you learn more about health, and be better able to make conscious, educated choices.

Lets start by discussing them here @ peoplejam...  let us continue to help each other, share experiences and information.  I have studied natural, preventative health and lifestyle, nutrition and natural food culinary, but I dont claim to be an expert..  I don't have what many doctor's are trained to possess.. the arrogance of knowing it all.  I am a humble consumer advocate.. a moderator to this most important discussion of how to weave the twists and turns on this journey towards better health.
