It’s that time of year again, the holiday season. During the Thanksgiving holiday most families tend to think of two things—feasting on turkey and lounging on the couch. But for moms, the holiday experience is not quite that easy. This is the time of year when you strap on those Super-mom capes, yet again, and fly around the house cleaning at warp speed, dashing in and out of the neighborhood stores gathering decorative napkins, colorful centerpieces and a surplus of food, while fretting over every last detail that will enable your guests to have a relaxing holiday with one another. Sound familiar? If so, you are not alone.

As moms, each of you takes pride in bringing the family together, even if that means doing most of the work yourselves. Now if your family were a corporation, it would be clear that operations were not working properly or efficiently. Every successful company knows how to utilize their resources, and as moms, you possess as much power as any CEO, probably even more!

This holiday season; let’s create a new tradition. One where our families truly work together as a team. One that takes the load off of moms and enables everyone to become more a part of the process. Then, at the end of the day we can all give thanks for the people in our lives that are there to support us and lend a helping hand, no matter how big or small. Any savvy domestic diva can champion the art of delegation.

Here’s how you can become a diva in your domain:
1) Divide up the to-do list. Once this is created, let the members of your family choose which things they will do. Giving them the choice creates options and accountability.
2) Let your little ones make the centerpiece. Kids love to decorate. As their creations sit displayed on the table, they will feel so proud of their work. Plus, the art project will allow you some time to complete your own tasks!
3) Ask guests to bring side dishes and desserts. People love to share new recipes. Even more, they love to feel as though they have made a welcome contribution. Far be it from you to stand in the way of generous contributions!
4) Make clean up a group project. Let’s face it; everyone always likes to hang out in the kitchen anyway. Why not make good use of this time; it’s perfect for bonding.
5) Let go of perfection. Ok, this is a tough one, but when was the last time your guests showed up with white gloves? Exactly, besides, imperfection is what makes life interesting!

Diva status is reached when you get the job done while NOT doing it all yourself. After all, sharing a spotlight that involves racing shopping carts, sweaty kitchens, and towers of dishes is not such a bad thing. Now kick back and enjoy the holiday as it was meant to be enjoyed, with family and friends.
