Can you relate with the pressure of always feeling that you need to be accomplishing more and more in both your business and your life? Ever feel this way: "I should be so much further along than I am. Look at so & so, they've accomplished so much, I need to be there right now! If I don't act now, there won't be enough to go around" Sound familiar? Welcome to the club.

Many people, especially self-employed folks, can relate to the feeling like we constantly need to be raising the bar on ourselves. When we decide to start our own venture we are taking the reins and doing things our way, on our terms. Oftentimes we are initially inspired because we want more freedom and flexibility in our lives and crave more control over the creative process and how things get done. We have no problem with working hard, and smart, but now we're able to call the shots, set the hours, and manage the pace for how things manifest and grow. What could be better?

What many of us don't realize however is that when we achieve success with our ventures, whether mild or wild, we're most likely, going to catch the bug to raise the bar and accomplish even more with our business - which is great! Raising the bar on ourselves is healthy- it forces us to stretch ourselves, to step outside our comfort zone - and be the person we always imagined being.

But a few questions to consider if you are anxiously feeling the need to "get out there" and do more, be more right away:

What's the rush? And at what cost?

What is my motivation for working this hard and long? Is it for me or do I feel like I have something to prove?

If I needed to wait six months to a year before launching this project (or whatever) and stuck with the status quo with how my business (or life) is right now, would I be alright with that? If not, why not?

In the past six months have I stopped to take inventory of all I've accomplished and celebrated myself and this success in anyway? Or have I quickly moved onto the next thing and raised the bar higher on myself?

Believe me, I'm not advocating stalling your business growth and not reaching for the stars - anyone that works with me or knows me, knows that's my wish for everyone. What I'm saying is - give yourself some time to acknowledge what you've accomplished, where you are with things before moving onto the next thing. The joy of anything is truly being grounded in the moment, and if we don't take the time to acknowledge, reflect, and celebrate those moments because we're too busy going onto the next thing, they are lost and forgotten - never to be had again.

I wish I knew who said it, that life is constantly either a challenge or a celebration. Thanks for the reminder.
