On Saturday 9.29.07 at 12 PM Nickelodeon will turn off all their programming and go completely dark for three hours. This is part of it's 4th worldwide day of play. Nickelodeon makes a worthy attempt to encourage children to play outdoors and initiate physical activity. This is a great effort on behalf of Nickelodeon to raise attention that kids are not as active as they should be. Will children get the message? Will parents help convey and promote Nick's attempt to get kids to play and include fitness in their lives? Even though the show won't be on for three hours an encore is in order!
I do not have any children but I work with and see many who are unhealthy, overweight and sedentary. Personally and professionally I encourage adults to eat right and exercise. This lifestyle yields optimal health so with aging ones quality of life doesn't decline or does so ever so slowly. Nickelodeon is doing a great thing. I really wonder what kind of an effect this would have if a popluar adult program or time slot were temporarily removed? Would inactive viewers get off the couch and take a walk, rollerblade, swim or bike?
