As soon as you start a new job, ask your boss if you can meet with them after a week to tell them what you have learned that is most important for you to do, to see if that matches their expectations and the priorities they think you should be focused on. When you have the meeting sort those things out, but then finish by asking them: "Going forward, what are three things I should always do and three things I should never do, to have the best relationship with you and the best chance of succeeding at my job and this company." Then heed whatever they tell you.

Very few people are proactive, forward thinking or thoughtful about how to make a relationship with a boss work out better. If you follow this tip, you will separate yourself from everyone who doesn't do this.
