Memories are easily forgotten, and electronic media can easily be lost or corrupted. I chanced upon old family photos, and discovered pictures of my deceased grandfather that I had never seen before. These mnemonic devices are often our only link to personal history and should be valued higher than any computer we use.
Digital photos and online journals held on 3rd-party sites should be printed out and kept in albums for posterity. I don't want to lose any moments in time to server failures, bad hard drives, or network outages. Hard-copy photos and papers don't require any electricity and can be viewed at any time and place.
I will have an archive of family photos and written memories of daily events from my journal. In an age where electricity seems to rule our lives, I can even look back at life with my family during power outages, or places where it's not easy to fire up a laptop like campgrounds.
Hey CancerMan--
Thank you so much for this. It made me recall several holiday's ago when I transferred all of the old video family recordings on the DVD for my mom as a gift (and created several back ups of each!!) It was such a fulfilling experience! The next year I did a digital photo "movie" and added music (me playing a song or two on the harp), again with multiple copies and backup. I then printed each picture and made a photo journey of the same 'movie'. It was such a thrill to watch my mom enjoy the history, passion, memories and joy of our life journies together in multiple formats!. I've gotten so 'busy' these days that I forgot the joy of this kind of creation! Your reminder is perfect.
Humbly yours,
Pamela
