Just recently I was listening to a recorded version of Lynne Twist’s keynote speech “The Soul of Money: Transforming Your Relationship with Money and Life” . This inspiring speech was not about how to create more money, but rather how to form a better relationship with money and life in general.
The main message was loud and clear; as a society and as individuals we live from a place of scarcity and lack. Why? Because we have been sold a bold-faced lie along the way!
As Lynne was telling the audience how we live with the lie that there is never enough it dawned on me just how easy it is to get trapped in that lie. We do it everyday in what may seem the most innocuous of ways. Consider some of the “not enough” messages we generate on a daily basis, most often subconsciously ;
Not enough sleep
Not enough money
Not enough smarts
Not enough clothes
Not enough skills
Not enough time
Not thin enough
Not handsome enough
Not pretty enough
Not courageous enough
Not witty enough
Not enough, not enough, not enough.
What’s it going to take for every single one of us to stop buying into the lie that there is not enough? That we as a collective whole and as individuals are not enough?
We are enough! You are enough!
Think about it, together as a nation we have banded together many times to raise awareness around important issues. As a matter of fact, we do it daily in the blogosphere. Frankly, I fail to believe that there is not one person out there who has never accomplished something really wonderful.
So you see we are enough and there is plenty of “enough” to go around.
Are you game and ready to stop living the lie of scarcity?
If so, here’s the challenge, for the next 21 days (since it takes 21 days to form a habit), I encourage you to stop feeding the lie by watching your own thoughts and feelings. When the “not enough” messages appear come up with a way to reframe them, to swap them out for a more empowering message. Then at the end of the 21 days, please come back here and let us know what happened.
Together we can stop the lie from spreading. Who's with me?
There is always enough to go around. As people we are enough to make anything happen on a global and individual level -- we just have to stop believing the lie that we are not enough.
Pam,
What a great thread! It always amazes me how we can hear something over and over -- it resonates each time as truth, but it takes our own growth and hearing the truth yet one more time before we can move forward. I love the challenge you presented, and it's just what I need, right now in my life, to remind me that there is enough of EVERYTHING that I want to experience. So, I mark today as Day 1 of the Enough for Everyone Movement.

Hi Teri,
Thank you for joining the movement. It is amazing how a message (heard once or twice before) received at the right time has resonance and can cause a shift. I know that is what happened for me after listening to Lynne's speech a second time. I all the sudden felt empowered and then had this cool "aha" moment. Some of the fear I have struggled with was deep seeded in the lie that I was not enough.
Can I hear a "we are enough!" from the chorus? ;0)
Thanks again, Teri -- if you ever need reminding that you are enough, you know where to come!
Hi Pam,
I love it and count me in!!
I've been living with Plenty of money for some time now, so much so that people just keep sending me more money in the mail! Its great! Today I empower myself to live with Plenty and Enough of everything to go around.
I am actually overflowing with brilliance as I type this and I'm quite sure that I am going to have plenty of time for everything today.
Day 1 and feelin great!

Love it, Beth!! Thank you!! Let it all flow - here's to Day 2 being more than enough. :)
Let's keep the momentum going. Who else is with us? Come on in the water is fine -- besides, remember..you have more to gain than you do to lose and there is MORE than enough to go around.
Hi Pam,
Thanks for bringing up this important topic. I've been noticing how so many people walk around in an impoverished state with an amazing abundance of everything we need all around us. Being enriched or being impoverished isn't about having or not having money. It's what you said: coming from a place of having/being enough vs. coming from a place where no matter how much you have it is never enough.
The most impoverished person I ever met was a multi-millionaire who was constantly chasing more. And the richest, worked in a garage, repairing cars, living his life fully, happy in his relationships, wanting for nothing.
keep bringing soul into it,
sharon
Sharon Rich (www.soulincorporated.net) engages people in a completely new conversation about —and relationship with—Self and Body , which results in profound shifts in all aspects of life.
Esoteric Philosophy, Christian Science, The Transcendental Movement as led by Ralph Waldo Emerson, the Self-Realization Fellowship, the Rosicrucians and all other Gnostics or seekers of a transcendental truth have claimed for ages that "God is boundless wealth and as expressions of the Infinite, we have an abundant inheritance."
The concept of "lack" is a bad joke. It's a four letter word. It's a false notion that parents spoon-feed their children until it becomes a secondary and automatic pattern of thought.
I believe that one's reality is the mirror image of their conscious and sub-conscious mind. If people could stay in the moment enough to realize that they're taken care and/or that by merely switch mental-gears from "not enough" to "more than enough" (even if that's not outwardly apparent) feeling it was so, would make it so.
The same force that moves a blade of grass through the dirt isn't thinking "not enough grass."
I just hope all of this comes to mind next time I'm stuck in "not enough."
Thanks for beginning this great thread Pam!
Sharon and Amanda, thank you so much for joining the thread and adding your terrific thughts.
Sharon, what you shared about the multi-millionaire and the man working in the garage reminded me of the story that Lynne shared in her speech. She had mentioned meeting multi-billionaires who were so worried about lack that no matter what they had they never had enough. It makes me tired just thinking about all the chasing.
Amanda, I love what you said about the force that pushes the grass. Amen to that!! That is certainly something that can be remembered when the fear of lack creeps in.
What's funny, I just had a t-shirt made that has the following acronym across the front, e.i.n.i.i.o.m -- which stands for Everything I Need Is Inside of Me. Originally the idea was to create an acronym on a t-shirt that would spark conversation around coaching ( a marketing idea I learned from a colleague). But after hearing Lynne's speech it now dawns on me how appropriate the acronym truly is. So now rather than wear the t-shirt to market, I am going to wear that t-shirt proudly to model being enough...more than enough.
Is there something you all are willing to do to model for the world that you are more than enough?
Thank you all again for your contributions and thoughts.
GREAT topic Pam! Lynne's message is an incredibly powerful one. I had the privilege of having lunch with her last year and we got in to a discussion about how one little thought 'there IS enough' turned into a global core belief, could bring peace throughout our world. If you think about it, most wars and strife in our world emerge from the core belief that there is NOT enough. Take a look at the conflict in your own life with others and you'll most likely see this "stinkin thinkin" is at the core of it as well. It starts with us first, each individual and as we believe it ourselves and model it's truth, we become ambassadors of peace!
Thanks, Pam for opening this terrific thread. I was fortunate to read Lynne Twist's book two years ago as part of a coaches' book club. I had been retired from NASA for a year and was fretting over my loss of income - coaching paying less than engineering, as it were. Lynne tells the story of Mother Teresa, how she never kept a reserve of money in her ministry. The more money that came in, the more good work she could do. The less money, the less good work. But, to her, there was always ENOUGH. Never too much, never too little. Just enough. This inspired me to sit down with my wife and ask, "What if what we have is enough? Are we making the most of what we have?" This started us looking at how we were wasting money. In fact, no matter how much money we might have, we'd have been wasting some of it and it wouldn't be enough. That lesson has stuck with us, and ever since we've had enough. Didn't always know where it was coming from, but enough always has showed up.
So for me, abundance isn't about boundless resources, about more than I need. It's about just enough and taking full advantage of that.

OK, so this thread is so good it inspires me in another direction. Lynne Twist makes the point that money only has value if it flows. Just as Sharon talked about the impoverished millionaire, Lynne points out the damage done in families whose focus is on protecting the family fortune. She goes on to tell of the positive impact that philanthropy has on many of these same families.
As I read Pam's posting, I realized that the same premise applies to many of Pam's "not enoughs". Money, smarts, skills, time, courage, wit, etc only have value if they FLOW. Ya hafta put 'em in play! You can be smart, skillful, courageous and witty but they have no value if you don't let them flow. By getting involved. Playing big. Taking a stand.
Game on!

Wow! I am loving the conversation here -- thank you all so much for adding a ton of value to this thread.
Amy, great points -- that "stinkin' thinkin' " is definitely a catalyst for conflict, strife, and even wars. I am so glad to be a part of a group of people right here who are willing to step up and be enough. As you said to me not too long ago, being enough is not something you can necessarily teach someone, it is something you model. If we continue to model "enough", I have great faith that we will help rid the world of "stinkin' thinkin' ".
John, I love the question you posed to both you and your wife. What a wonderful question to create awareness. Just love it!! Something else you said really resonated with me as well; playing big. It is so easy to get caught in the trap of not enough that we fail to use the assets we have. Like a muscle, in order to make those assets stronger you have to use them! As you said, John...game on!!
There is plenty of room for everyone to play so I look forward to more folks joining us!!
It is amazing how many areas of our lives this can be applied to; and I wanted to share one way this has helped me shift my perspective with great results lately.
As an ex-perfectionist and someone who's natural style was a cycle of manic over-achieving followed by patches of downtime for recovery, time was an area where I always felt this artificial lack. The more I focused on *all* the things I had to do, the more the list seemed to grow and the less I felt I was achieving.
I love affirmations or mantras, and so decided I would start tuning my perspective on time to the channel of synergy and abundance on my daily radio! Each day I focus for a couple of minutes and remind myself - "I have an abundance of time and energy for everything I am meant to do today."
The amazing thing is, that not only am I now really feeling the achievement I create each day, it is also flows much less stressfully. If there is something I haven't managed to do (usually it's on a mental list rather than a written one), then I acknowledge that it wasn't meant to happen today - which means no more figurative beating myself up!! I'm also finding time for more of the things I love and enjoy; which I'd previously felt there was absolutely no room in my schedule for.
With love & curiosity,
Sam :)

P.S. Seeing Lynne present a key-note last year was a truly unforgettable experience. She sang a melody of gratitude that helped remind me of many harmonies in my life!
Pam,
Has it been 21 days already? I wish I could say I remembered to counter negative thoughts about my worth, but I was definately more conscious given this challenge. The biggest change, it just came to a culmination yesterday (isn't timing perfect?). . . I finally feel like "enough" for my kids. I realized that I cannot repeat the mistakes made by my own parents, it's a different world, a different time and I'm a different person. I am enough for them. I will continue to be a better mom, but because I want to enhance who I am, not because I feel like I'm lacking! Thanks Pam!!

You go, Girlfriend!! Wow, great awareness - just keep being you and always have faith that you are more than enough. Thanks for taking the challenge and for being such a powerful contributor.
Love this topic! Thanks Pam for calling it out! I so believe too that we have been taught to see lack instead of abundance. However, from a Spiritual viewpoint, there is the Infinite. Look around at Nature. It just keeps going, keeps coming back. That force of nature that splits sidewalks and takes over temples in the jungle is Energy and Energy cannot be destroyed. If we think of anything as enegy, it's limitless, and if we think of ourselves as energy, then we are limitless. It is only our thoughts and beliefs that limit us. Anything is possible. Miracles occur daily.
I recently heard a statistic that if you add up all the money that changes hands worldwide, and bring it down to a second in time, it's something like a million dollars that changes hands every second. Pretty hard to keep the story of lack in the face of that!!
