Especially during the finals, there are some great NBA baskets that look impossible but manage to make it in! Every time I see a great play like that I fall in love with basketball all over again! Five of the most exciting buzzer beaters I have seen are:

1. Derek Fisher – 2004 NBA Playoffs – Touching the ball with only 0.4 seconds left the Los Angeles Lakers star makes the impossible shot to win the game. He promptly ran off the court into the locker room. When later asked why, he claimed he didn't want to stand around and act like he was unsure about it for fear they would take the points off. Looking at the replay – he indeed made the shot! The San Antonio Spurs were shocked.

2. Robert Horry – 2002 Western Conference Finals – After Los Angeles Lakers stars Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal both missed the layups, Vlade Divac swatted the ball to Horry and he made the impossible 3-pointer to win against the San Antonio Spurs.

3. John Stockton - 1997 Western Conference FinalsThis point guard for the Utah Jazz hit the three pointer as time expired in order to win the series from the Houston Rockets.

4. Nick Van Excel – 1995 NBA Playoffs - This Los Angeles Lakers guard hit the winning 3-point shot against the San Antonio Spurs with 0.5 seconds left on the clock. (I see a pattern!)

5. Michael Jordan – 1989 NBA Playoffs - How could I mention this category without mentioning The Shot? Perhaps his most famous basket, he took the inbounds ball and made it to the hoop with only 3 seconds and heavy coverage. His Chicago Bulls won over the Cleveland Cavaliers 101-100.

What would be your favorite college buzzer beater? I might have to go w/ Christian Laettner's last second shot against Kentucky. March madness is almost upon us!!!

I guess I would have to pick an oldie but goodie - back in 1995 when Tyus Edney beat the clock to put UCLA over Missouri in the last 4.7 seconds of the game. UCLA went on to be National Champs that year! I am counting the days until the Madness begins and will have a few posts this week to celebrate it!
