The 2008 PGA Tour season is in full “swing” and filling in that time between NFL football and MLB baseball quite nicely. Recent winner of the Northern Trust Open, Phil Mickelson is a passionate ambassador of the sport – here are 5 things you may or may not know about him:

1. While he swings left-handed, he actually goes through the rest of his life right-handed. As a lefty myself, this is quite baffling since club makers truly cater to the right-handed majority. Usually you see southpaws conforming to have a better equipment selection.

2. He’s #1 on the money list for 2008 with $1,944,700. This pushes him over $47 million for his career. Who couldn’t fall in love with a salary like that!

3. Mickelson is currently #2 in points for the Ryder Cup standings. #1 is Tiger Woods, of course. The two have actually been rumored to be enemies.

4. Born in San Diego, California he attended Arizona State University for college. During his years there, he became a rather formidable amateur and won many NCAA awards and contests.

5. Playing competitively at the Riviera Country Club ten times, his win on President’s Day weekend was the first time he was able to conquer the course. Even so, he struggled through before he came out the victor.
